2007 Updates to Sitter Downs Horse Boarding

This spring, we placed "clay" around our hay bunks. This should make a better foundation.

We dry lot the herd in the winter (approximately 10 acres). The dry lot is dragged consistently.

The manure is composted.

Do you need black dirt?  See our Compost.

Putting clay around our hay feeders.

George stirring up the compost.  Retha also does this, only she has learned not to stir into the wind!!!
          Making the compost pile....

July 2007 pasture - we do not overgraze our pastures.

In July 2007, the old pond was cleaned out.....

We took out the old stumps as well.

The horses will have access to the pond and fresh water and they do enjoy swimming.

We spend $$ on our property, after all, if you don't take care of it, it won't take care of you. We fertilize, spray for weeds, drag the pastures, brush hog, and rotate.

Dragging the old pond. The herd will have access to this pond and fresh water. They do like to swim.

Fish fry may be coming in the future.

By the end of July 2007, our hay shed was full.

We do not set out a round bale.  (See The Extras).                       George made these hay feeders.

July 2007 - our 50 by 60 quanset hut is full.

Marvin Thomey has been coming to our facility to help with training issues. His training techniques are fashioned after Clinton Anderson.

He charges $50 for the first hour and $25 for every hour afterwards. Some of his training points.....

  • You need to show your horse that you mean to be dominant over him/her.
  • Earn it by showing your horse that you can make him/her MOVE their feet.
  • The real problem with most horses is that they simply don't have a proper foundation. Give them a proper foundation and almost every problem goes away on it's own.
  • Often, if a horse is expected to change,
    the owner must also change.
  • Fixing the horse's problem is usually a simple matter. Maintaining it? That's another story.
Making her move her feet.

Now, let's go the other way.
